The iRobot Mirra 530 Pool Cleaning Robot

AWESOME Pool Cleaning Robot. The iRobot Mirra 530 Pool Cleaning Robot is designed to deep clean pool water & surfaces. It can remove items ranging from bacteria two microns across to leaves, plus anything in-between like hair, algae & dirt. Mirra 530 uses a PVC scrubbing brush to get grime off the pool walls and floor. It also scrubs the water line where bacteria and oils can accumulate. The vacuum cleaner sucks in the dirt along with the water. The robot has two motors, one of which drives it. The other motor pumps and filters 70 gallons of water per minute.

The pump & filter deposit debris into the canisters on the robot's top. The robot's movements through the pool reduces hot spots & spreads chlorinated water evenly through the pool. The robot's PVA wheels give the robot traction on slick surfaces like vinyl or ceramic. It can even climb stairs. This cleaning robot is easy to use. No installation is needed; just put the robot in the water and turn it on by pressing the CLEAN button. Similarly, it does not need or use cumbersome hoses. It has technology, including iAdapt Nautiq Responsive Cleaning Technology For Pools, that enable it to determine the size & shape of the pool and then select the most efficient cleaning cycle. The robot makes multiples passes through the pool, thus ensuring it gets every microbe or speck of dirt.

Cleaning the robot is also easy. There are two quick-drain valves on the bottom that let the robot drain quickly. The debris that the robot collects while cleaning end up in a pair of top-load canisters. Cleaning these is just a matter of opening the doors, taking out the baskets and emptying them. Mirra 530 is 16 by 13.8 by 12.1 inches & weighs 20 pounds. It comes with a 60 feet long power cord that floats & comes with a swivel detangler. An optional carrying caddy makes it easy to move and store the robot ...

Good info, the Pool Cleaning Robot
  • Brushes all the way up to the tile line. Pool is cleaner than ever before.
  • Low power consumption (power supply rated at 180W)
  • Climbs steps
  • Does not tangle its power line
  • Large filters
  • High filter volume and powerful pump. Noticeable water currents on the surface even when it's on the bottom.
  • Interesting, robotic appearance; feels like something lives in the pool. Creates whirls and releases bubbles. Makes noises when it climbs partially out of the water.
  • Replaces vacuum driven cleaner, so the mandate to run the pool pump at least part time in high speed mode goes away. Potentially big overall power savings.

Bad info, the Pool Cleaning Robot
  • No instructions on how to use this thing besides turning it on. Daily, once a week, leave it in the pool all the time, etc? How much to reduce the main pump cycle?
  • Assembly instructions said to adjust the robot's turn angle to 90 degrees using float parts that came with it. However after turning it on, it doesn't do any turns. Only later in the program, there are turns. That was very confusing. I had to add both floats.
  • During the first couple of minutes, the robot only goes up the wall a foot, then goes back down. Only later it climbs all the way up. That is nowhere explained and caused a bad first impression "They advertise it cleans all the way up to the tiles but it can't climb up the walls".
  • Instructions say, power supply can't be in the sun and in the rain. Well, do I have to build something around it? Store it when not in use? How is that supposed to work?
  • The unit is relatively wide and the brush is straight and short haired, thus the center portion of the brush doesn't touch the wall in small radius bends. Eventually, it gets those spots as it sometimes will run along the wall more horizontally.
  • You are supposed to adjust the gap between the surface and the suction inlets. However they don't stay in place when the robot climbs steps where the edge occasionally touches his underbelly
